Jardín de Infantes y Maternal Nidito de Amor
Developing IT Infrastructure at a Kindergarten in Avellaneda, Argentina
The “Jardín de Infantes y Maternal Nidito de Amor” was pleased to receive a computer along with a kindergarten management software system from Numeral. The system, the first of its kind in the kindergarten’s 20-plus year history, will be used to capture a double pedagogical opportunity: on the one hand, children will be introduced to computer-use and educational software; on the other hand, by automating administrative tasks - from attendance to payroll management to emergency alert services - teachers and staff can focus on classroom learning and other high-value activities.
The kindergarten, founded in 1996 at the initiative of the Del Canto family, is located in the Barrio Obrero of the town of Villa Domínico, Avellaneda, a district in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Lacking a state subsidy – something difficult to secure in Argentina, yet necessary to reach more children from low-income families – the kindergarten does not have the necessary funding for IT investments. “Technology establishes an educational link for children from low-income families by providing access to the internet’s vast library of knowledge”, said Myriam Attiz, director and founder of Jardín de Infantes y Maternal Nidito de Amor. “For us, the computer and educational software are of great help since we have very limited economic resources to implement the necessary technology that our study plans demand”.
By providing the initial investment, Numeral hopes to demonstrate the merits of digital solutions and spread word-of-mouth. The director of “Nidito de Amor” is a member of a local board and is excited to share her digital-technology experience with other members. The team at Numeral believes that strong interest from other kindergartens is necessary to secure additional funding for large-scale IT infrastructure expenditures in the region.

With a total of 20 children and a staff of 6, the kindergarten helps working families in need of day care. There are currently two groups of ten children with two teachers per group. For children aged 3 to 5, the kindergarten also offers multi-age rooms and extra-programmatic workshops for students who need pre-school classes.
With the upgraded infrastructure, the kindergarten was able to successfully transition to virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. “One of the core attributes that the kindergarten has is our classroom adaptability. We arrange the space and furniture, organize the materials, everything according to our pedagogical intention. In our opinion, the environment teaches”, said Myriam Attiz. “At the earliest stages of education, contact and group activity are crucial factors for children’s development. But with the onset of the pandemic, we had no choice but to adapt. Thanks to Numeral, we now have an additional element in our toolbox – digital technology. For many teachers, it was an unexplored area, but it now provides us with endless opportunities for outreach, communication, and education delivery.”

Worldwide, COVID-19 has served as an unexpected catalyst for the process of digitalization. Similarly, at the “Jardín de Infantes y Maternal Nidito de Amor'' this process is just the beginning.
